Many successful growers are using a double layer system of shade cloth.
This table allows you to compute the correct combination for your crops and conditions.

The durability of shade cloth varies by brand and type, but most shade cloth tends to stay effective for at least 6-12 years. This is the average longevity, but it can always longer or shorter based on external factors such as weather conditions.
Black is the most common cloth color, but many types of shade cloth are also offered in tan, green, violet, and white.
Greenhouse growers apply various amounts of covering to suit the needs of different grow operations, but in many situations, the size of the shade cloth needed can be calculated by taking the total area of the covered grow space (length x width) and adding 2/3 onto this. For example, for a 15′ x 15′ grow space, a 25′ x 25′ may be applicable for a single layer covering that encloses some of wall height as well.
